Pediatric Occupational Therapy encourages independence through “occupation”, or the activities we do daily. The activities performed by an infant look very different from the activities performed by an adult. For infants, their “occupation” is focused on feeding, sleeping, and interacting with their environment using their hands, eyes, and mouth. As children, our primary “occupation” is playing, socializing, learning, and developing skills to care for ourselves such as, dressing, bathing, and eating. During adolescence, our “occupation” focuses more on money management, preparation for employment, social skills, and relationships.

Based on the belief that children learn best through play, our occupational therapists develop interventions which revolve around this “occupation.” Utilizing trampolines, specialized therapy swings, ball pits, and much more, we encourage physical balance and coordination, improve spatial awareness, fine motor skills, and sensory regulation.
